Senegal is Iran’s trade gateway to West Africa: commerce minister

In a meeting with Senegalese Commerce Minister Mamadou Diop in Tehran on Saturday, Mirkazemi said that thanks to its strategic situation, Senegal can be a venue for the supply of Iranian-made products to the western African markets.

“Iran has exported over $100 million worth of commodities as well as technical and engineering services to Senegal in the current (Iranian calendar) year specially in the fields of energy and car manufacturing,” he added, according to the Mehr News Agency.

The Iranian minister referred to implementation of trade and customs agreements, supporting mutual investment, expansion of air and sea cooperation, as well as setting up joint banks and exhibitions as essential for the expansion of bilateral economic ties.

The Senegalese official said his country welcomes further cooperation with Iran in the fields of higher education, agriculture, and pharmaceuticals.

He hailed Iran's investment for establishing electricity transmission lines and launching car manufacturing plants in Senegal.

The recent visit of Senegal President Abdoulaye Wade to Iran highlights the will of the two nations to bolster bilateral relations.
